Throwdown

The EffingHAM-JAM Hometown Throwdown invites amateur pit masters from all over the area to show off their skills and compete for prizes in several different BBQ categories. Blind judging by local celebrities and KCBS professional judges will begin Friday, July 12 in Effingham, IL at 4:00pm. Community tastings begin at 4:00pm.

We are actively accepting Hometown Throwdown teams, food, and non-food vendors, volunteers, and sponsors.

Contest Application

Thank you for participating in the 2024 EffingHAM-JAM Hometown Throwdown scheduled for Friday, July 12 in Effingham, IL at 4:00p.

Your single entry fee will allow you to compete in all categories – chicken breast, pork butt, ribs, sauce/rub, side dish, Top Hog (amateur & corporate), and Grand Champion (overall).  – More details can be found in the 2024 Rules Packet (Click Here).

Entry fee: $125, includes one t-shirt, 10lbs chicken breasts, 16-20lbs pork butt, 2 slabs of pork ribs*, (2) 8ft tables, & water access Spots are first come, first served.
*spare ribs are for judging only

Payment: 

  • Accepted forms of payment include: credit card, check, or money order (must be sent upon completion of this application)
  • Make checks payable to: “Effingham County Chamber”
    • Mail to: 903 N Keller Dr., PO Box 643, Effingham, IL 62401
  • Call the Chamber to coordinate credit card payments

Notes:
Spaces are 20′ x 10′
Pop-up tents are the responsibility of the team
Team member vehicles are to be parked offsite
Water is provided at no charge (bring hose)
